Our Journey Home to Coffee
Midwest Stars is more than an exporter; it’s a company founded on a personal mission. After experiencing the challenges of the coffee trade firsthand, the founders returned to their Ethiopian roots to build the honest, reliable partner they could never find for themselves—one deeply connected to the land, the farmers, and their clients' success.
The Story Behind Midwest Stars
The story of Midwest Stars begins not in the rolling hills of Ethiopia, but in the U.S., with the founder's simple love for coffee. After discovering that her own home country was its birthplace, she knew she had to share that rich heritage.
But building a coffee brand from afar revealed a broken system. Her frustration grew with each shipment of mislabeled coffee that arrived—a costly mistake that eroded trust. She felt the profound beauty of her country's coffee—a legacy perfected over centuries and celebrated in the daily ceremony that is the heartbeat of Ethiopian culture—was being lost.
That frustration became a mission.
The family moved back home to build Midwest Stars. Today, they personally oversee the process with a hands-on approach. This means visiting the farming communities in celebrated regions, participating in cupping sessions to ensure quality, and fostering fair, respectful partnerships. Their business isn’t just about exporting coffee; it’s about restoring trust and sharing the authentic, nuanced story of its origin.
"Midwest Stars transformed our supply chain. Their communication is flawless, and the quality of their Sidamo coffee is the most consistent we've ever had. They are true partners."
